Ishin-Il-Raz
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Grand Admiral Ishin Il-Raz was Star Wars Expanded Universe character, a Grand Admiral of the Imperial Starfleet. He was one of the original 12 Grand Admirals, raised to that newly-created rank by the Emperor after the Battle of Yavin.
Unlike all the other Grand Admirals, Il-Raz was not promoted for any military or strategic ability; indeed, he was wholely lacking in any martial talents. The Emperor promoted him solely for his political activities- Il-Raz was co-founder of COMPNOR during the Clone Wars (a volunteer organization devoted to supporting Palpatine) and for his work as a propagandist and theorist (his main contributions being the development of the "core values of High Human Culture"). Il-Raz was devoted to the Emperor and his new order, and felt that by switching to military activities, he could further earn Palpatine's regard; to this end he oversaw several military activities such as the Massacre of Myomar and the bombardment of the planet of Shalam. All this came crashing down in flames with the Battle of Endor. His despair at the death of his emperor ran deep, and despite comfort from another New Order loyalist Grand Admiral Pecatti Syn, who went so far as to let Il-Raz have his rare copy of the Emperor's Secrets of the Dark Side, Il-Raz determined to end his life. Eight months after the Battle of Endor, amidst the chanting of precepts of the Select Committee, Il-Raz plunged the Emperor's Disciple into the Denarii Nova, with the loss of all hands.
Though never published and thus not canonical, Star Wars Insider author Daniel Wallace indicates that Il-Raz's personal Star Destroyer was named Emperor's Disciple. See here.
