[edit] Student Activities

There are many student-led clubs, including a yearbook committee, a tee-shirt committee, and an event committee. A student government is also being formed. There is also a Math Team led by the mathematics teacher, Marty Sugerik.

[edit] UNCW

The high school curriculum lasts two years, after which most pupils become full-time UNCW students. As part of their studies, students do lab work at the university, attend lectures, and have access to the university's Randall Library. These courses give pupils both high school and university credits.

[edit] Courses

The courses available to pupils in their Freshmen year are as follows:

  • Honors Earth and Environmental Science, Honors Biology
  • Honors English 1&2
  • Honors Geometry, Honors Algebra 2, Pre Calculus and Honors Discrete for some
  • Honors World History, Honors World Geography
  • Humanities
  • We are also starting a new program called algmetry which is a mixture of algebra and geometry and it finishes off the rest algebra and goes into geometry

[edit] Extras

This high school is like no other in New Hanover County. It allows students to use laptops as textbooks and to explore the internet for research, and to check their school-wide email accounts to stay in touch with the teachers and each other. The students are also allowed to take Drivers Ed, once they turn 14 1/2, due to state law. However, the students may not drive to school until their junior year, due to limited parking.

[edit] Schedule

The students start their day like most adults do for work, at 9:30 in the morning and end at 4:30, while they are using Snipes Elementary School as their temporary location. Our new school is still under construction.
