Iroon Polytechneiou Street (Patras)

Iroon Polytechneiou Street (Greek: Odos Iroon Polytechneiou), is Patras' major street running from Othonos Amalias Avenue and Norman Street up to the EOT campground at Patras. The street have been served with the GR-8/E55 (Athens - Corinth - Patras) and the GR-5 with the GR-48/E65 since the 1970s. Its total length is approximately 4 km. The street runs within the Gulf of Patras and contains two lanes with mostly parking spaces.
Residential buildings with older and modern architectures covers the east side of the street and extend up to near Agyias Street as well as residential buildings, shops as well as stores and other services are in the southern portion.
The Port of Patras is to the west in the southern part, the yacht in the central part and the coastling unsafe for swimming in the northern part

The avenue was paved in mid-20th century and was named. The area became the national highway in the 1970s and housing developments with six to eight-storey residential properties were added at a high capacity until the 1990s. Street lights were also added and were removed in the 1990s, in 1993, the new link with the New GR-8 was under construction and opened in 1995, street lights were added in the north section in the same year and a traffic light was installed in 1997, four more traffic lights were added by 1999 and street lights were reinstalled.
