Iron Triangle (Vietnam)

The Iron Triangle was a 60 square mile (155 kmĀ²) area lying between the Saigon River and Route 13 about 25 miles (40 km) north of Saigon. It was a Viet Cong stronghold during the Vietnam War.

The region contained logistics and headquarters. It was captured on January 8, 1967 by a combined force of U.S. And South Vietnamese troops in an operation known as Cedar Falls. The operation involved nearly 16,000 American troops and 14,000 soldiers of the South Vietnamese Army and took nineteen days. Seventy two Americans and 720 Viet Cong were killed.
