Irmandades da Fala

The Irmandades da Fala (Brotherhood of the language) was a galician nationalist organization active between 1916 and 1936.
It was the first politic organization of Galicia that only use the Galician language.
[edit] Origin
Aurelio Ribalta, a Galician writer that lived in Madrid, called for the protection of the Galician language in 1915. In January 5 of 1916 Antón Vilar Ponte started in the newspaper La Voz de Galicia a campaign for the establishment of a League of friends of the Galician Language and in March of 1916 he published Galician Nationalism (Notes fo a book). Our regional affirmation, where he supported the protection, dignification and use of the galician language.
The proposal was supported by several ideological branches. The main movements were the traditionalist of Antón Losada Diéguez and the liberal-democrat.

In the congress of November of 1918 in the city of Lugo, they established their program:
- Prioritary objectives:
- Complete autonomy for Galicia.
- Municipal autonomy.
- Joining of Galicia in the League of Nations.
- Federalism with Portugal.
- Objectives for Galicia:
- The legislative power will be in a Galician Parliament, elected by the people.
- The judiciary branch will be always exercised by galician people.
- Galicia will be have own tributary laws, without intervention of the central power.
- The galician and the castillian will be the official languages in Galicia.
- The same rights for the women than the men.
- Suppression of the Provincial Deputations.
