Irené Novaczek

Irene Novaczek is a Canadian marine scientist and environmentalist. She was born in Scotland and raised in the Maritime provinces and Quebec. She is the Natural Resources Critic for the Green Party of Canada, working in the Egmont riding of Prince Edward Island. She has worked with fishery issues, lobbied the United Nations, with Maritime and fishermen's groups, for recognition of inshore fishermen's interests in the Law of the Sea. She is a scientific advisor to Save Our Shores, a coalition of fishermen, tourism workers, First Nations, and other groups trying to protect inshore fishing grounds from the impacts of oil and gas exploration. She received a Professional Leadership Award from the Government of Canada for her work in the Pacific Islands, where she supports indigenous women in small business development.
