Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ireland chose their entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 using the Late Late Show Eurosong special, which took place on 16 February. RTÉ has internally selected the County Sligo based traditional Irish band Dervish, to represent Ireland in Helsinki. They will perform the song "They Can't Stop The Spring", in Helsinki in the Eurovision final on 12 May 2007. The song is written by John Waters and Tommy Moran. Unusually for Eurovision, the avant-garde style of the vocalist allows her to roam freely through eleven different keys during the song.
Dervish are one of the most prominent ambassadors of traditional Irish music and have performed to audiences around the globe. Interest has surrounded the song selection since Dervish are known for their capability of performing in English and Irish.
Dervish will directly enter the final in Helsinki on 12 May.
