The Persian language is one of the oldest attested Indo-European languages and has a literary tradition dating back thousands of years.
One of the most famous authors in the tradition of Persian literature is Omar Khayyám, a medieval Persian poet and astronomer.
The Moving Finger writes: and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.
— Omar Khayyám
