The Iranian constitutional referendum of 1963 was held in January 1963.

[edit] Aims

The referendum was for the reforms of the White Revolution of 1963[1]. It was overwhelmingly approved by voters and abolished the feudal landlord-peasant system which angered the country's Islamic clergy[2]. Additionally, it brought about compulsory education at the primary level and privatization of many factories[3].

[edit] Suffrage for women

The referendum also bestowed upon women the righ to vote[4] in 1963 who had been deprived of electoral rights under the Iranian Constitution of 1906 pursuant to Chapter 2, Article 3.
