[edit] Plot Storyline
The episode begins with Niles and Frasier attending a silent auction for the Kelly Anne Grunther Foundation. After some talking with Frasier, Niles stumbles upon an auction for a luncheon with three of the greatest scientific thinkers of their generation. Niles bids and leaves. Later, Niles returns to observe the bidding sheet, and notices that someone has doubled his bid. After some thinking, he realizes that the person is Frasier!
Niles and Frasier begin to argue and double each other's bids until Niles bids at $4,050. This ends when the Kelly Anne Grunther Spokesman announces that Niles has won the auction. He then claims that since Niles, has made such a generous bid, he would like for someone to take another seat at the luncheon table unless Frasier can double Niles' bid. Frasier agrees and the total bid culminates into a whopping $8,100.
Niles and Frasier return to Frasier's apartment to have some sherry and ask themselves where the harsh competiteness began. Frasier hints that it started when the two brothers wanted the attention of their mother. Frasier and Niles reminisce about how they once took IQ Tests while they were younger however, although they never found out the answers. Their mother only told them they were 2 points apart. They ask Marty where the IQ tests are and he tells them that they are in a box in his cupboard. Niles and Frasier find the box and discover their IQ's.
Frasier has an IQ level of 129. Then, Niles discovers he has the larger IQ. When Frasier congratulates "Mr. 131" and Niles corrects him by saying, "higher!" Frasier is astonished that Niles has the larger IQ (Niles' IQ is 148) and rushes him out the door. He then dashes down to the University Library to research everything he can for the luncheon tomorrow.
The next day, at the luncheon, Niles notices that Frasier is severely tired. Niles then reveals to Frasier that he knew that he went to the library because he spied on him through his car window in the garage on Frasier's apartment. Niles sneezes and scratches his ear and Frasier finally understands. Niles only sneezes and scratches his ear because of his parchment mite allergy. Frasier exclaims over the fact that Niles really went to the library as well. Niles denies it and takes some more cold pills. The pills make him drowzy and hallucinate and spill water all over Frasier and pull off the dinner blanket, breaking a bunch of plates and glasses. At the exact moment, the three scientific geniuses walk in to discover to their horror their two luncheon-mates.
