IPv4 internet

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The IPv4 internet is a specific wide area network that uses the IPv4 protocol as its network layer protocol. Technically, what the general public knows as "the internet" consists of the IPv4 internet and the IPv6 internet, even though, for the time being, the latter is much smaller and only exists as "islands of connectivity", and almost all well-known internet sites are part of the IPv4 internet.
