[edit] I. violacea deprecated?

Could the author of this statement please provide a reference. You may be right but if so this must be new. Papers I have from the 80s and perhaps 90s treat them as distinct. -- Russell E 00:45, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

They are two distinct species, but the name I. violacea is commonly misapplied to I. tricolor; the true I. violacea is as described by Linnaeus. As this page is actually referring to I. tricolor, I'm going to move it there, and then start a new stub for genuine I. violacea. - MPF 10:11, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
