Commit by 219.93.174.108 is possibly erronous. This user (IP) has made other 'testing' commits elsewhere. I'm reverting, and hoping someone else will check this.

[edit] new section for movies filmed in ipoh

Movies filmed in ipoh should be in its own category.... maybe not in one category (due to lacking of content) but in a wider category such as "Arts and Entertainment", etc. suggestions???

[edit] Relocate this block of text to WikiTravel:Ipoh

Have removed this block of text, which is more suitable in the WikiTravel site rather than encyclopedia:

Shopping in the city center can be quite cumbersome, especially those who travel by cars. Finding a parking space in the middle of the city can be difficult; the number of parking space are simply not enough. However, there are several shopping centers in Ipoh that incorporated with ample parking space. Those are The Store and Ipoh Parade,Tesco,Jaya jusco. The latter is Ipoh's largest shopping center that accomodate two anchor tenant, multi-hall cinema, bowling alley and a food court. Carparks are ample, though it can be tricky in the weekend.

[edit] Clarify schools section

Wikipedia editors please check to see whether the claims in the school section ("notable for...") is correct or simply a matter of increasing popularity.

The current commentary on each school in the school list should be removed. It does not represent neutral information and sounds like a biased advertisement for each school. --Momolee 07:13, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

    • Now this section looks better, more NPOV. User:Momolee is right... before the edit most of the stuff is biased.
    • Current list of schools are sorted in alphabetical order. Information regarding Catholic-run schools seem significant (to the history of Ipoh) and have been re-added after removal. Editors please keep it sorted in alphabetical order. And please: do not add cruft or any non-NPOV info about schools. This is an encyclopedia.
The Govt tamil school at Jalan madras off jalan sungaipari is not listed

It was a primary school and i studied 4,5 classes selected to go to english medium secondary at Anderson school in 1959, after passing in the govt examination , when head master was Mr.Nagalingam will any body give more lihgt on thgis school?

[edit] Vandalism

Ipoh's page has been heavily vandalised. I'm a new Wikipedia user. How can I revert back to older version without manually retyping the text?

    • I've got it. Thanks.

[edit] Falim

I've never heard of Falim, can anyone verify if there is such a place? Cavingliz 08:57, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Falim is located between Menglembu and Ipoh old town along Jalan Lahat. It has a few rows of shop-houses along the main road, and a housing neighborhood behind them. Used to be considered as a town of its own before development spread from town all the way to Menglembu. 202.122.158.242 10:26, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Removal of Chinese name

For background, please see Talk:Kuching#Language. Basically, Chinese is not an official language of Malaysia, so by convention, we should not be using it in the article (otherwise, we have no objective standard for inclusion of alternative names - we might as well put the Swahili transliteration in as well). Jawi has a better claim because it is an alternative script for Malay, which is the official language of Malaysia. Johnleemk | Talk 12:11, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Forgive me if I'm being ignorant, but is Jawi an official script for Malay? I know it's been a Malay script before the language romanisation, and it's still practice by certain quarter. I'm not in the position of favouring one language over the other, and I don't see how a few Chinese characters here and there clutter up the page. I read the Kuching talk page, and notice your point. I'm just seeing it that settlements with large majority shouldn't hurt to have a few of significant keywords in its language laying around. The fact is, most people refer the place as so. Pages directed from "In Other Languages" is often not as updated as it's English counterpart, if it's even there; thus, Chinese visitors will not be more likely to visit ZH pages anymore than EN's. I do agree to remove both Jawi script and Chinese characters in the info box, leaving it only English, and nation-wide recognized roman script of BM if it differs from its English name. Any additional important information can be included in the main introductory if it's significant to the place. What do you think? Zhernfai 17:20, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Personally I am inclined to agree - although if Jawi is an official script for Malay (which I think it is), I believe it ought to be included in the infobox as well. I think only official names and common English names should be included in the infobox. Johnleemk | Talk 05:28, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
