[edit] History

The first Iowa Highway 1 was a north-south highway stretching from Northwood to Lamoni. It was designated on July 1, 1920, but was replaced by US 65 and US 69 in 1926.

The current highway was designated in 1926. Although no segments were paved at designation, the entire route was paved by 1969.

In 2001, it was to become the first "Super-2" in Iowa (a two-lane road, but with wider shoulders and lanes, fewer intersections, and more turn lanes). Because of funding shortages, the project was scratched.

[edit] Current status

The highway has no current construction projects or closures.
