Talk:International Federation of Trekkers
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article on IFT has been placed here so that information on this organization is available as it is for other Star Trek Fan Organizations. All groups should be listed and not just certain ones. It's source of information was the information package from IFT and was written by the current Executive Officer of IFT's GEO 1. If there is something wrong or missing, if the person or persons will contact me, I'll gladly work to correct any problems. Stonecoldq 19:18 EST, 21 February 2007
- WP:ILIKEIT is not a reason to include an article. This article does not include any verifiable, reliable sources to establish this organization's notability. --EEMeltonIV 02:06, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
I'm working on putting together the sources for this article (including personal interviews with principles) and a rewrite that I'm working on. Please allow me time to complete this. BTW, do all of the other Star Trek Clubs have to meet this? I see no references on other club sites, nor do I see them having this much trouble. Stonecoldq 20:52 EST, 22 February 2007
ATTENTION ADMINISTRATOR!!!!

UPDATE: You have received emails from the IFT Presdient and myself over this matter. How long before the article is restored? Dennis Rayburn Stonecoldq 23:51 EST, 02 April 2007
- This might address the copyright issue, but other questions of verifiability and notability are lingering. "Personal interviews" to which you allude would be original research. --EEMeltonIV 17:32, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Unfortunately, this is not my full time job, thus my time can be limited. However, I am working on those matters and will get them addressed as soon as this copyright matter is cleared up. My question is why are you so against IFT and not bothering the other fan organizations? Stonecoldq 23:50 EST, 02 April 2007
- As far as I know, permission to use articles must be not only for wikipedia, but also for other mirrors. I don't know what permission you've recieved, so I would appreciate it if you could copy in the mail you recieved here. As for us being against IFT; this is not true. The article was removed because it was taken from another website, and was thus likely to be a copyright infringement. If other editors does the same to other articles, the result will be the same; the article will be deleted, or if possible reverted to a version that does not contain copyrighted material. Thanks for responding. The remarks about not liking IFT was not aimed at you but at someone who has been posting here complaining about the article. Here is the first email from Russ:
Thanks for your attention to this matter. The information in the articles about IFT as submitted by Dennis Rayburn are true. IFT was formed with the help of Gene Roddenberry and Gene was a part of IFT until his death. His son now holds Gene’s former position in IFT and can verify everything I state here and that is in the information about IFT. Please allow the IFT information to be published to the Wikipedia site. IFT is the only fan organization designed, built and operated with the help of Gene Roddenberry. IFT is now the only official affiliate of the Roddenberry family’s company, Roddenberry.com.
Russ Haslage, President
International Federation of Trekkers
Let me further add that the website at http://www.iftcommand.com and all IFT logos and graphics are copyright IFT. We do not use Paramount graphics per our agreement with them. All items seen and stated on the IFT site are copyright IFT.
That was his second email. Now I see that he didn't come out and say it's okay. I'll talk to him again. Stonecoldq 04:23, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
- Also, please see WP:COPYRIGHT#Using_copyrighted_work_from_others to see if his permission would be ok as per the copyright policy. If the IFT can't/won't release their material under the GFDL, the article cannot be used directly, but would have to be rewritten. Bjelleklang - talk Bug Me 04:26, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Bjelleklang: Thanks! I'll get to rewriting it and resubmitting it asap. Stonecoldq 04:29, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
I Protest to the speedy deletion matter as I am trying to clear up a copyright disagreement with an administrator. As soon as that's cleared, it will be restored or rewritten. Please allow us time to get this resolved. Stonecoldq 04:29, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
