Interstate 580 (abbreviated I-580) in Nevada is an unsigned Interstate highway between Reno and Carson City that is still under construction. I-580 has been part of the Interstate planning in Nevada since the 1950s but has never been completed. Much of the future I-580 will be co-signed with the current U.S. Highway 395 freeway in Reno but will not travel north of Interstate 80. I-580 is slated to be completed in 2010.
I-580 is being built in multiple sections. North of Washoe Lake, from Washoe Valley to the Mount Rose Junction, the freeway will be built along the hillsides of Pleasant Valley, passing over the Galena Creek Bridge.
The Carson City Bypass is being built in 2 phases. The first section of the Carson City Freeway opened February 16, 2006, from US 395 north of downtown south to U.S. Route 50.[1] US 395 was rerouted onto it (with a temporary US 50 concurrency), and the old route through downtown became U.S. Route 395 Business.[2]
I-580 is built to interstate specifications with sound abatement walls and can be expanded to six lanes in the future. There are currently half interchanges at North Carson Street and Arrowhead Parkway and full interchanges at College Parkway and US-50 (only half is currently open). There will be full interchanges built at Fairview Drive and at the joining of the freeway to US-50 west to Lake Tahoe. The use of modern single point urban interchanges is prevalent throughout the route. Roundabouts are used at the half interchange at Arrowhead Parkway.

[edit] Interstate 580 Extension
This portion of the freeway will extend south from Mount Rose Junction, connection to the freeway through Washoe Valley.
[edit] Galena Creek Bridge
At 690 feet in length, the Galena Creek Bridge's main arch will be the longest concrete arch in the nation.
[edit] Carson City Freeway
[edit] Phase One
Phase 1 of the project constructs the northern half of the Carson City Freeway. The project starts north of Carson City near the East Lake Boulevard Interchange in Washoe Valley.
When going south on Highway 395 and exiting on Carson Street, motorists will continue on the new freeway. It will be two lanes on each side of the freeway and this will continue until they reach College Parkway. Here they will be diverted off to city streets. Phase One was completed in February 16, 2006.
[edit] Phase Two
Phase two is in two parts, 2A and 2B. The Phase 2A project will construct the central portion of the Carson City Freeway starting at the US 50 East Single Point Urban Interchange (SPUI), which is the southern terminus of the Phase 1 project, and continue south on a new alignment to a partial interchange at Fairview Drive.
The Phase 2B project will construct the southernmost portion of the Carson City Freeway starting at the Fairview Drive Interchange, which is the southern terminus of the Phase 2A project, and continue south on a new alignment to a point where it connects to US 50 West at the existing US 50 West - Tahoe Juncture / S. Carson Street intersection.
