[edit] Route description

Interstate 526 forms a 19.26 mile half-circle around Charleston, with the western terminus at U.S. Highway 17 west of the Ashley River, and the eastern terminus also at U.S. Highway 17, on a section co-signed with U.S. Route 701 east of the Cooper River. Both of those sections go north around Charleston and meet up at Interstate 26 near the Charleston International Airport. U.S. Highway 52 and U.S. Highway 78 intersect with Interstate 526 nearby. There are plans to extend I-526 across Johns Island so that it will form three fourths of a circle around Charleston. After I-526 goes over U.S. Highway 17 in Mount Pleasant, SC a suburb of Charleston it becomes Business 526.
