Interstate 516 (abbreviated I-516) is a 6.48 mile (10.43 km) long auxiliary interstate highway near the southeastern, coastal Georgia city of Savannah as a spur route of Interstate 16. I-516 was formerly signed State Route 21 and even early as State Route 26 Loop. It is still today S.R. 21 and State Route 421 was added as a hidden reference route numbering in 2000 to make sure that all interstates in Georgia had 400 series reference numbers. It spurs both northeast and southwest of I-16, extending from Abercorn Street/State Route 204 to the split of U.S. 80, S.R. 25 and S.R. 26 in Garden City.
[edit] Exit list
Contrary to normal practice for interstates, the following exits are listed east to west with the mile-log numbering used since 2000; the exit numbers originally used are also listed.
All exits are in Chatham County, Georgia.

[edit] Future plans
I-516 forms the southern end of SR 21, part of a highway that will soon be redubbed as State Route 565, and will be part of the Savannah River Parkway, connecting Savannah to Augusta. A more recent proposal will upgrade the entire route as a new Interstate 3 with I-516 becoming the southern terminus of the new highway.
