[edit] History
The ISH became an IB World School in June 1986.
The ISH caters for the large international community of The Hague. Many parents work for one of the many international organizations and companies located in The Hague, such as the European Patent Office, Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, Royal Dutch Shell or embassies.
[edit] New School Building
After many years in its location at Theo Mann Bouwmeesterlaan 75, the ISH announced in 2002 that it would move to a new location, Wijndaelerduin 1, in Kijkduin. Although the move was originally scheduled to take place at the beginning of the 2006/2007 school year, it was eventually postponed until October 2006. However, due to drawbacks with the construction of the building, the school postponed its move again until January 2007.
The primary school moved into the new school in August 2006. The new school building is much larger than the old one. A lot of new computer and furniture was promised to the students, but these have not been given. However the new building is still not completely finished.
[edit] Organisation
The ISH is a member of the Rijnlands Lyceum group of schools, a non-profit educational foundation, which has schools in Wassenaar, Oegstgeest, and Sassenheim in the Netherlands. In primary education it works in partnership with the Haagsche Schoolvereeniging (HSV).
The school is divided into a primary school and a secondary school, both of which are located in the ISH building in Kijkduin. The principal is Ian Forster.
Because it is part of a Dutch foundation, the ISH is subsidised by the Dutch Ministry of Education. This allows the fee structure to be lower than other international schools in The Hague, making the school more affordable for those who fund the tuition fees themselves.
[edit] Curricula
The primary school offers the International Primary Curriculum for students between the ages of 4 and 11 (Reception to Year 6), while the secondary school offers the IB Middle Years Programme for students between the ages of 11 and 16 (Years 7 - 11) and the IB Diploma Programme for students between the ages of 16 and 18 (Years 12 and 13).
[edit] CAS
The school as part of the IB program requires the students to spend at least 150 hours for CAS activities within the two years of the IB program. These have to be spent on doing 50 hours of physical activity, 50 hours of creativy activity and 50 hours of service.
[edit] MUNISH
The ISH hosts its own annual Model United Nations conference, known as MUNISH. Hundreds of students from other international schools (including the British School of the Netherlands and the American School of the Hague) attend. The ISH also contributes to The Hague International Model United Nations, the oldest and largest United Nations simulation for high school students in the world.
[edit] ISH Online
ISH Online is the official student forum of the International School of the Hague. It was established in 2006 by four year 12 student for CAS. The purpose of the site was to bring students of different ages and nationalities anonymously together. The ISH Online
[edit] The "ISH Rooster"
"ISH Rooster" is a rooster, which mysteriously appeared in the front yard of the new school building. Most of the day it spends hiding. Its sound sometimes can be heard in the classes with the windows opened. The origin of the rooster is a mystery. However there are rumours of its origin, including that a teacher left it there, but the most likely version is that it escaped from a nearby farm.
