The International School Nido de Aguilas is an international K-12 school in Lo Barnechea, Santiago, Chile.

Nido de Aguilas is located on a spacious 160- acre park-like setting in the foothills of the Andes mountains, approximately 30 minutes from downtown Santiago. The school is situated in between the traditional neighborhood of Lo Barnechea, the Cerro 18 public housing project, and the popular upper class subidivisions of La Dehesa. The latter is the location of choice for many Nido families. Early Childhood (Pre-K-1), Elementary (grades 2-5), Middle School (grades 6-8), and High School (grades 9-12) programs are housed in separate facilities and each has its own designated staff including principals, teachers, counselors, and support staff. In addition to classrooms, the campus facilities include two multi-purpose halls, a modern library/media center, science laboratories, computer labs, art rooms, music rooms, college admission office, a cafeteria, nursing/first aid center, several playground areas, a double size gymnasium, weight training and fitness facility, three sports fields and an all-weather track.

All classes are taught in English except Spanish language classes, which are required at all grade levels from kindergarten to grade 12. Nido offers special classes to support non-native English speakers. However, entrance to upper elementary, middle and high school grades require prerequisite levels of English proficiency. Given the academic nature of the school's program, special services are available to support students with only MILD learning disabilities. Nido does not offer programs for students who have more serious learning disabilities or who have special physical or emotional needs.
Curriculum/Diplomas: The educational program is that of a traditional United States college preparatory school. The language of instruction is English, with required courses for students seeking the Chilean diploma taught in Spanish. In the Early Childhood Center and the Elementary School, students are grouped heterogeneously and provision is made for individual learning needs according to relative achievement. The Middle School program consists of five core subjects of English, math, science, social studies, and Spanish, with additional classes in physical education, music, art, drama and computer. Although emphasis in the High School is on preparation for entrance to United States colleges or universities, many of our graduates are also admitted to universities in Canada, Asia, South America, and Europe. Students may choose to obtain one or more of the following: United States diploma, Chilean National Diploma, or an IB Diploma. All of our students take a minimum of 27 Carnegie units in college prep-courses and electives to meet graduation requirements. (More details are available on the school website: <www.nido.cl>).
Calendar: The academic year comprises two semesters extending August to December and mid- February to June. There is a four-week break during the month of July, and the Southern Hemisphere summer vacation extends from mid-December through mid-February.

Nido de Aguilas (Eagle's Nest) was founded in 1934 as a private, co-educational, non-sectarian day school. Today, Nido serves over 1,200 students from more than thirty countries and offers a comprehensive college preparatory educational program from Early Childhood (age three) through grade 12. Nido serves the international business and diplomatic community of Santiago, as well as, local students seeking an English language, US style education. Current enrollment is composed of 50% U.S. and international students and 50% host country students.

Governance The International School Nido de Aguilas is a non-profit Trust, governed by a Board of Directors consisting of a minimum of 9 members and a maximum of 13 members, all of whom must be parents of current or former Nido students. Minimum requirements include that the Board be composed of four U.S. citizens, four Chilean citizens, and one appointee by the U.S. Ambassador. In accordance with the school's legal status, the Governing Board is “self-perpetuating” in nature, meaning that openings are filled by election of the sitting Board Members, for 3-year terms.
Faculty and Administration (PreK - Grade 12) The Headmaster and building principals supervise an instructional staff of 125 teachers which includes specialists in guidance, music, art, computer, psychology, English as a second language, library, science, mild learning disabilities, and reading.
