International Delphic Council

International Delphic Councilis a charitable, non-governmental organisation (NGO) and is the co-ordinator and chief executive body of the worldwide Delphic Movement. The International Delphic Council (IDC) strives towards peaceful co-existence among nations through intercultural under-standing.

[edit] Delphic Games – From tradition to modernity
A peace dedicated competition for the arts – the Delphic Games are claimed in ancient Greece for about thousand years as the cultural and spiritual leadership with an equal high standing in society as the Olympic Games.

of the Delphic or Pythian Games reaches back 2600 years into the past. The Games took place in every year preceding the Olympic Games. The Pan-Hellenic events were dedicated to the god Apollo, who symbolised light and beauty, music, poetry, the healing arts and the Delphic oracle. Both the Olympic and the Delphic Games were banned in 394 AD by the Emperor Theodosius. 1500 years later the International Olympic Committee (IOC) was founded 1894 by Pierre de Coubertin. 1994 – a hundred years later, acting on the initiative of J. Christian B. Kirsch, representatives from 18 nations founded the International Delphic Council (IDC) in Berlin. 1997 – the First Junior Delphics took place in Tbilissi, Georgia. Patrons included President Edward Shevardnadze, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Daniel Tarschys, and the Director General of UNESCO, Federico Mayor. 2000 – the First Delphic Games of the Modern Era took place in Moscow, Russia, with the support of President Vladimir Putin and the Patriarch Alexeij II. Patrons: Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Dr. Walter Schwimmer and the Alternate President of the World Council of Greeks Abroad (SAE), Kostas Pappas. 2003 – the II Junior Delphics took place in Düsseldorf, Germany. Patron: Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Dr. Walter Schwimmer. 2005 – the II Delphic Games took place in Kuching, Malaysia. Patron: Chief Minister of Sarawak Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Ab-dul Taib Mahmud.

therefore offers, every two years, a new mosaic of human creative power. Every nation sends its best representatives of national culture, selected from the entire nation, to the Delphic Games. The presentations at the Games, taking the form of exhibitions and demonstrations, mirror the artistic diversity and cultural wealth and heritage of our planet.

consist of sophisticated specialists. They decide upon the Delphic Arts Categories and Criteria’s and define the rules and participa-tion in the Games.

consist of sophisticated specialists of all continents. They decide upon the Marketing Strategies, Sponsoring Programmes and develop Special Formats.

of the IDC is in Berlin, Germany. At the current time, 30 nations worldwide have either already established National Delphic Councils (NDCs) or are in the process of doing so. The NDCs vote on a 12-member executive board of the IDC (Am-phiktyonia) during a general session. Since August 2003, the Amphiktyonia has been headed by the President of the IDC, Prof. Divina Bautista (Philippines). The daily business is run by the Secretary General, initiator and founder of the IDC, J. Christian B. Kirsch.

The IDC is financing itself by membership fees, donations, and practical contributions.
