International Broadcasting Company
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The International Broadcasting Company was formed in 1931 by Leonard Plugge as a commercial rival to the British Broadcasting Corporation by buying airtime from European radio stations such as Radio Normandy in 1931. Other stations IBC worked with were Toulouse, Ljubljana, Juan les Pins, Radio Paris, Post Parisien, Athlone, Barcelona, Madrid and Rome. IBC only worked indirectly with Radio Luxembourg. Captain Plugge was such an enthusiastic commercialist that the term 'to plug' is said to have been named after him, but there is reason to doubt that because he himself preferred to pronounce his name "Ploodge".. Among other things Plugge invented the two-way car radiotelephone.
