The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), headquartered in York, Maine, is a global association of privacy and security professionals. With more than 3,000 individual and corporate members, the IAPP seeks to define, promote and improve the profession of privacy. The IAPP achieves this mission through a combination of certification programs (the Certified Information Privacy Professional, or CIPP), conferences, publications, and networking events.

Originally constituted as the Privacy Officers Association (POA) in 2000, it became the International Association of Privacy Officers (IAPO) in 2002 when the POA merged with a competing group, the Association of Corporate Privacy Officers (ACPO). In 2003, the group was renamed to the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) to reflect a broadened mission to include the rapidly growing ranks of corporate personnel, beyond the position of Chief Privacy Officer, engaged in privacy-related tasks.
