Intel 80487
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Intel 80487, or 487 (i487), was sold as a floating point unit coprocessor for Intel 486SX machines. It was essentially a full-blown 486DX chip. When installed into a 486SX system, the 487 disabled the main CPU and took over all CPU operations. In theory the computer would be able to operate if the original 80486SX CPU was removed, although in practice a pin on the 487 prevented this.
