The Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (Porto Superior Institute of Engineering) or ISEP is an higher learning polytechnic institute of engineering in Porto, Portugal. Initially located in the central Porto, it was moved to Pólo Universitário near São João Hospital in the 1960s.

ISEP is a public establishment founded in 1852 as Escola Industrial do Porto (Porto Industrial School) and former Instituto Industrial do Porto (Porto Institute of Industry), and since 1988, was made part of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, but maintaining a large autonomy. It is one of the biggest engineering schools of Portugal, with circa 6,000 students and 500 teachers. Its motto is Saber Fazer — "Knowing how to do."

  • 1852 The Escola Industrial do Porto (Porto School of Industry) is founded by the minister Fontes Pereira de Melo, during the reign of King Peter V.
  • 1864 The school was transformed into an Institute, as Instituto Industrial do Porto (Porto Institute of Industry), and since then it has formed the industrial elite of Porto.
  • 1975 The Institute was integrated in the university sector, and renamed Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (Porto's Superior Institute of Engineering).
  • 1988 ISEP is integrated in the newly created polytechnic sector and made part of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto.
