The Institute
Institute of Engineering And Technology, Lucknow (better known as the “Engineering College” in Lucknow), is the oldest engineering college of Lucknow. It was inaugurated on November 1984 with the objective of producing quality engineers in every discipline. It includes departments of Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics Department, Mechanical Engineering Department, Electrical Engineering Department, Chemical Engineering Department, Civil Department, Applied Sciences Department and Business Administration Department. Since its establishment, this institute has been proving itself to be the best engineering college of Lucknow.
The institute is situated on the outskirts of Aliganj or on the entrance of Lucknow from Sitapur road. It is well reputed all throughout the state of Uttar Pradesh and has been spreading its fame throughout the country through its professionals. The institute had started with a mere strength of around 200 students. Now the strength has reached up to 1500 students. The institute is run by the government with a highly qualified faculty in every discipline. The institute has been accredited by AICTE.
The institute is affiliated to the Uttar Pradesh Technical University (U.P.T.U). The institute organizes the selection process for the students in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes every year for the state of Uttar Pradesh. The SEE (State Entrance Examination) is conducted by the institute and the counseling process takes place in the institute itself. History
The IET was established by the Government of U.P in 1984, for imparting engineering education and for promoting technological research to generate suitable technical manpower. The institute is fully financed by U.P Government and is being administered by the IET Society (registered under the Societies Act 1860) through its Board of Governors.
The IET Lucknow, started in November 1984, constituted the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of Lucknow University. Initially, it offered B.Tech degree in three branches, namely Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics. Within a year, two more branches i.e. Civil and Mechanical were introduced.
The Campus of institute was constructed by Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd. (UPRNN) on an 100 acre plot purchased from Lucknow Development Authority against a sum of Rs. 2.40 crores. Inspite of initial difficulties, UPRNN constructed substation, Academic Block, two boys’ hostels, one girls’ hostel and nearly 70 residences. LDA provided its support for construction of external roads, electric supply, drainage and sewage, etc.
IET fulfilled the long felt need of an Engineering College at Lucknow. It was the first state government Engineering College to start its classes in its own campus from the beginning itself.
The founder Director, Prof. Suresh Chandra, joined on 26th June 1984 and the teaching faculty joined their posts from 11th October 1984 onwards. The Director, IET Lucknow, also assumed the office of Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow University on 25th April, 1985. Departments
Computer Science and Engineering Department
The department is a premier and dynamic center for imparting quality education in the field of Computer Science. Its a center for advanced studies, keeping pace with the latest in the rapidly changing environment of Information Technology.
Electronics Department
In tune with the latest developments and keeping pace with the rapidly evolving technology, the department is equipped with state-of-the-art equipments and instruments for experimentation in different subjects.
Electrical Department
The department of electrical engineering is one of the most electrifying departments. The syllabus is well up to date and speaks for the need of industry and follows the guidelines laid down by AICTE.
Mechanical Engineering Department
The mechanical engineering department is considered as the heart of the institute. A mechanical engineer designs, develops, operates and maintains systems required for all what happens in industry.
Civil Engineering Department
The department is one of the five nodal centres from all over the country for Nationally Coordinated Projects on National Highways funded by AICTE and Ministry of Surface Transport.
Chemical Engineering Department
The department offers a well-planned and balanced curriculum to enable students to cope up with the latest knowledge and rigorous industrial trends.
Biotechnology Department
The Institute offers M.Tech. in Biotechnology, a one of the most promising disciplines of engineering and technology that have been assessed as an area of prime importance and relevance by the government. The programme is duly approved by AICTE and affiliated to the UP Technical University, Lucknow.
M. Tech. Environmental Engineering Programme
The Institute offers M.Tech. in Environmental Engineering programme, a one of the most promising disciplines of engineering and technology that have been assessed as an area of prime importance and relevance by the government. MBA Programme
The Master of Business Administration (MBA) is a two-year full time course spread over four semesters. The programme is duly approved by AICTE and affiliated to the UP Technical University, Lucknow.
