The Institute for Anarchist Studies is a non-profit organization founded in 1996 to assist anarchist writers and further develop the theoretical aspects of the anarchist movement. It has given grants to over forty writers, including Lorenzo Komboa Ervin, Peter Lamborn Wilson, and Murray Bookchin, in addition to many lesser known authors. Projects the institute has assisted include the Latin American Archives Project, a multilingual online database of works by Latin American anarchists, and the Renewing the Anarchist Tradition conferences, which are open talks and discussions on aspects of the anarchist movement. The Institute also publishes a biannual journal, Perspectives on Anarchist Theory.

The Institute for Anarchist Studies was founded by Chuck W. Morse in 1996.

(Not to be confused with Anarchist Studies ISSN 0967-3393 , which is an inter-disciplinary journal of scholarly resarch into the history, culture and theory of anarchism. Anarchist Studies is currently edited by Sharif Gemie and it is published by Lawrence & Wishart, London. It is published twice a year. Issue number 1 appeared in 1993. Formally affiliated to the 'Anarchist Studies' Journal is the "Specialist Group for the Study of Anarchism - SGSA).
