[edit] History

Fourteen-year-old Robert Reid (vocals), thirteen-year-old Dan McLintock (guitar, vocals), thirteen-year-old John Comee (bass)and eleven-year-old Scott Shad (drums, vocals) formed Inspection 12 in 1994 while in junior high school. They were influenced by the first wave of Southern Californian punk, which included bands such as Green Day and NOFX.

Inspection 12 released their first recordings on cassette in 1995 and 1996: an eponymous EP and the full-length Come, Hefe, Come!. Second guitarist Pete Mosely was also added to the lineup in December of 1995. Their second album, titled Inspection 12, was released on compact disc in 1997. Later that year, Reid was asked to leave the band while McLintock took over as lead vocalist. You're A Nation was released in 1998. A month after it's release Scott Shad's cousin, James Trimble was added as second guitarist, and Step Into The Fire was released in 1999 with the new lineup.

After graduating high school, McLintock left the band and his hometown to join christian punk band Craig's Brother. He also joined the band Limp and while on tour with Limp (Honest Don's), a copy of Step Into The Fire was given to Fat Wreck Chords label owner Fat Mike, who then asked the band to record the Home EP to be considered for his smaller label, Honest Don's Recordings. After the release of the Home EP in 2000, the band began recording its first album for Honest Don's, a mixture of re-recorded old songs and new songs.

In March 2001, eighteen-year-old drummer Scott Shad went into diabetic shock, passed out in his car and crashed. The death of Scott devastated the band and fans. They were uncertain of their future, but decided to continue, replacing Shad with lifelong friend Tim Grisnik. They named their first major label album In Recovery before the death of Shad, which was released in May 2001 on Honest Don's Barely Legal Recordings.

Guitarist Trimble left the band after their 2002 In Recovery U.S. tour. In 2003, the new three-piece released the album Get Rad independently, after learning that the Honest Don's label would no longer support them. European record label Floppy Cow decided to press Get Rad and release it in Europe, Japan, and made a distribution deal with Suburban Home Records to sell it in the U.S.

Pete Mosely assisted fellow local band Yellowcard by helping to write and recording bass guitar on Ocean Avenue. He became the band's permanent bassist after the recording of the 2003 Capitol Records release Ocean Avenue.

Also, in 2003, they were included in the Green Day Tribute "A Different Shade Of Green: A Green Day Tribute" covering the song F.O.D. (Fuck Off and Die)

Inspection 12 joined the Takeover Records roster in 2005. The current lineup is Dan McLintock, Pete Mosely, and Tim Grisnik (also of The Softer Side).

Since July of 2006, guitarist James Trimble has rejoined the band. The current lineup is Dan McLintock, Pete Mosely, James Trimble, and Tim Grisnik.
