Insight on the Scriptures

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Insight on the Scriptures is a hard cover two-volume Biblical reference work, published by the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania in 1988. Both volumes are 1,280 pages long, with volume 1 covering topics Aaron to Jehoshua, and volume 2 covering Jehovah through Zuzim. The Insight books replaced the older reference work Aid to Bible Understanding (one volume) published by Jehovah's Witnesses.

The works contain full-color illustrations, graphs, charts, maps and other visual aids, as well as detailed analyses of all subjects found in the Bible. Biblical views on subjects such as mercy, death and so on are also discussed as their own headings. Subjects such as the trinity, theology, and apostolic succession do not have their own headings, as there is no direct mention of them in the Bible. The Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania has published separate articles dealing with these subjects.

The Insight books contain articles on every book of the Bible (except for the deuterocanonical books which are discussed in the article Apocrypha) with an outline of each's principal ideas.
