Insect Civilization

In the science-fiction television series Lexx, the Insect Civilization is an ancient race of massive millipede-like organisms bent on destroying the Brunnen-G and all of Humanity.

[edit] The Early War
The Insect Civilization's first forays into the Brunnen-G war are sketchy at best, but it seems as though through this war, they gained an instinctive hate for both the Brunnen-G and of Humans. The war lasted for many years, and the Insects' renowned cunning was not enough. Although, it is never clear exactly how the Brunnen-G actually defeated the Insects. One possibility is raised, however, in the episode Brigadoom; the head of the theatrical troupe explains how Kai and his fellow Newborn used small fighters (similar to dragonflies) to attack the Foreshadow. These fighters were actually a different type of genetically grown insects which had been grown to a useful size, then had various organs removed and replaced with cybernetic control systems, weapons etc. This was a common technological pattern in the Lexx universe, as witness the Lexx itself, which was clearly a composite of organic and mechanical components.
[edit] Insect Reproduction
It seems as though Insects reproduce asexually, with many infant Insects growing from the sides of their bodies. If one of these Insects grow up and escape the parent, if the parent dies it passes its essence. If the parent is still alive, then the baby Insect retains its own essence to pass on.
[edit] Do They Die?
Insects, strangely enough, do not actually die. This is because a special organ located inside the Insect allows it to transfer its consciousness from itself into its offspring, at death. This act of mental parasitism is common to all Insects. However, if all Insects are destroyed, leaving no natal ones behind to inherit their consciousness, then their defeat is assured.
