Inland Knights
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Inland Knights is a two member group consisting of house music producers/ DJ's Laurence Ritchie and Andy Riley. Having individually shown their DJ'ing prowess during Northern England's (specifically Nottingham / Derby and Midlands) early 1990s free party scene, the pair decided to join forcesand produce their own material in the mid-nineties. The two first met in 1993 as a result of their involvement in the legendary free party group- the Smokescreen Sound System. Being part of, and working with Smokescreen arose Andy and Laurence's interset in producing their own music.
In 1998, the pair worked closely on Ritchie's collaboration with Steve Walker and Jason Cowley; this was soon after Ritchie moved from Sheffield to Nottingham.
'Inland Knights Volume 1' saw the beginning of the 'Drop Music' label which now has over 30 releases to its name, spanning a variety of media including EPs, singles and continuous-mix CDs. Most of the 'Drop' catalogue has been by 'Inland Knights' who often assume different names to highlight differing styles of house-music. Some of these 'pseudonyms' include 'Party Criminals', 'In House Alterations', 'Grand Theft Audio', and 'Big Audio Spidermites'.
It is not unusual for 'Inland Knights' to include most styles of house-music during a single set; for example: jazz & funk, percussion and vocal hooks, and this has played a big role towards their international popularity.
Both Laurence and Andy enjoy producing and DJ'ing in equal measure, and this has seen them keep a demanding international touring agenda from the start of their collaboration.
