A train leaves hourly in each direction. Up (London-bound) trains call at Shenfield and Stratford (where trains can only set down), meaning that trains reach London Liverpool Street in half an hour (most of the time). Down (away from London) trains call at Chelmsford, Hatfield Peverel and Witham, then:
- White Notley, Cressing and Braintree Freeport before terminating at Braintree (Mondays-Saturdays), or:
- Kelvedon, Marks Tey, Colchester (North) and Manningtree en route to Ipswich (Sundays.)
