INGO stands for International Non-governmental organization, such as CARE and ADFA-India.
The major INGOs include: CARE International, Oxfam International, World Vision International, Save the Children Alliance, Caritas International. And other small Interational Organizations include:Ecos do Sur
Some INGOs were founded as private philanthropies, such as the Carnegie and Rockefeller Foundations, and the Ford Foundation. A surge in the founding of development INGOs occurred during World War II with a number of groups founded which would later become some of the biggest development INGOs, such as Oxfam, Catholic Relief Services, CARE, and Lutheran World Relief.
