[edit] Wikipedia:Avoid using meta-templates
I've recently made edits to this template to satisfy this policy. You do not need to rely on "templates within templates" to do this function, and so this is not an exception to that policy. -- Netoholic @ 20:12, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WTF Images
Why on Earth do we need up to eight images (all of which are going to be fair-use, of course) to identify one single character? That flunks WP:FUC #3 and #8 miserably, and makes for huge, ugly infoboxes. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 20:39, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- Please be civil. I neiter not like your attitude or approach to the matter.
- Multiple images are necesary to display characters from unrelated shows. The AMG OVA manga movie tv series were disctinctly different and images should reflect that. I am not going to go into a greater detail for now.

- I looked at those images, and they're clearly the same design being drawn by different people. If a single design is so different that it bears commentary, then add that image to the body of the article alongside the commentary. But, taking the Skuld infobox that was on this talk page for example, there were three images of the same character design in different series, and one totally unnecessary image of an obscure game.

To make this absolutely clear, in case the thread on WP:ANI didn't make it clear enough, this infobox cannot be a gallery of fair-use images. I totally redesigned it to not use the metatemplates, although the only difference on the page is that it's now 250px wide, instead of 300px. I'm also going to add a function to automatically sub Wikipe-tan when it's used outside of articlespace, but that's not implemented yet. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 22:14, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

- Well, the images are still accessible by editing the page and copying and pasting. I'll see what I can't do to make a quick hack to generate text links, but I wouldn't leave that up long. - I do not know why Dynamo Ace is doing what he is doing. He seems to be frustrated.
- There is a reason why I dumped images to the infobox and not to thumbnails (would certainly be easier for me). This has to do with the edit link and thumbnails breaking it. See link for an example. So meanwhile lets keep the working version. We can come up with a proper solution later on but the issue needs a discussion prior.

- The images, right now, are borderline copyvio. They need to be removed immediately, and then replaced one by one as we figure out how and what to do with them. As for what I was doing with the template, other than ditching the extra images, everything I did was 100% constructive. I substed the metatemplates and made them work, I slimmed the template a little, and I'm planning to add a switch that automatically replaces the image with Wikipe-tan if the template is being used outside of articlespace. - This isn't a radical anti-cruft agenda. This is curtailing abuse of fair-use images per WP:FUC. Did you have any objections to my redesign of the template, other than removing the extra image parameters?
