[edit] Blood Type vs. Japanese blood type theory of personality

I think that linking Blood Type to Japanese blood type theory of personality would be more accurate in this situation than linking to the main Blood Type article. These are Japanese fictional characters, and so it could be assumed that when their blood type was chosen, it was chosen to reflect the personality theory, rather than an actual inherited ABO blood group. Can I get any comments on this? - Malkinann 11:54, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

agreed, normal blood type isnt very usefull for anything and the average watcher probobly wont know of the blood type theory —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 142.167.161.82 (talk) 23:31, 30 January 2007 (UTC).

Sence noone has objected to this in 2 weeks I'll go ahead and change it NeilHynes - Talk - Contributions - 01:57, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Clean up

As the first hurdle on my list of Naruto clean up areas, the info box (and the smaller recreations of it in the various "List of" articles) is in dire need of a good trimming. Because I can't really expand this opening paragraph further, I'll get straight to the point and list what I feel needs to go (the key word is "I", as in "my opinion"):

  1. Blood type and Registration #, as neither is all that useful. In the case of Blood Type, I don't know of any importance to it; I (and I'm sure many other people) do not know my own blood type, so it does me little good to know that of a fictional character. And even if I did know my blood type, I don't see how it's at all relevant.
As far as Registration # is concerned, it's importance is also questionable. At best, it's (seemingly) an indicator of how many ninja have been registered in a country or how many years the Hidden Village has existed, which might be interesting as a single line in the given country's article. Having it on every character page, however, does nothing but give an idea of who's older than whom, which is more efficiently accomplished by Age.
  2. Eye color and Hair color, as the specific color can be distinguished by looking at the character's picture. I realize it would be discriminating against colorblind people, but it still is of little necessity.
  3. Caption doesn't strike me as being overly useful. At best, it's an easy place to stick a link to Masashi Kishimoto, but that's about it.
  4. Date of birth, Height, and Weight I'm not really sure about; all are useful to a fair extent, but they all seem to qualify as Fancruft. Age would also probably fall into this category, but it seems notable enough to warrant keeping. I have no strong opinions about keeping or getting rid of any of these.
  5. Relatives is not something I'm proposing the removal of, but I think it could use a clean up as well. Some characters (Sakura, Choji, Iruka, Haku, etc.) have unnamed parents listed under Relatives, which I don't find to be overly useful. Because they all have a birthday they obviously have a mother and father, so there seems to be little need in pointing it out if a name and ideally a link can't be provided.
  6. Jutsu is also something that should stay but see a cleaning. Basically, if every character's list of abilities were to be limited to things or jutsu they use frequently and/or were of particular importance at some point in time, then characters like Naruto and Kakashi could see substantially shorter jutsu lists. To coincide with this change, assuming there is a consensus about it, the section could be renamed Notable techniques, or something of the like.
  7. Finally, as a further trimming, if the field were to have N/A or None known of as its only content, then the field probably doesn't need to be shown on the specific character's page. Previous affiliation for example is N/A on most articles, and that seems rather pointless. So, if the field were to be set up to disappear in the event that it's not given, then each character page would be slightly shorter (assuming this is possible).

And that about does it. If somebody wants to propose further removals they should feel free. Depending on what is dropped, the info box may need some reorganization, but we'll get to that when and if it becomes necessary. And in the event that not many people give an opinion on this (since I'm not really sure how many people watch this template), I'll bring this up elsewhere. ~SnapperTo 20:36, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chakra Element

I have attempted to add Chakra Element to the template, as it is a character factor that is slowly being established for different characters throughout the Manga in it's recent issues. However, my addition seems to have been promptly removed. I believe it to be a relevant character statistic. Is my addition in some way inappropriate? - ShadowHare 08:51, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

We've gone over this elsewhere. We know a grand total of four characters' elemental affinities and are not likely to learn more any time soon. Furthermore, said affinity does nothing to hinder a ninja's ability to use other affinities, so it makes no difference anyway. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 08:25, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps we may not learn any more in the near future, but the fact that they "make no difference" is not necessarily true. The fact that Naruto was told which affinities have strengths and weaknesses to each other, and that "it's a good thing [he] didn't have an earth affinity" when referring to him battling Chidori suggests that even though a ninja can use different elements, their primary affinity element is unchangable and significant. Beyond this, Ninjas whos affinities have not been established still have trading card elements, which can optionally be mentioned as a significant possibility until it is established in the manga. - ShadowHare 08:51, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Using a specific element against another can present a problem, this is true, but there is nothing stopping a trained ninja from changing their elemental attack. Also, given that the two TCG elements you've listed thus far have been wrong in the show context, I doubt others will be right. Besides, as I understand it, chakra elements in the TCG are merely associated with whatever effect is written on the card and not necessarily representative of what that ninja may actually use. In all, there's not enough concrete information to warrent adding one field for four characters. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 08:43, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Very well - ShadowHare 08:51, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Debut Rank

I added a feild for Debut rank, since almost all charcters change ranks over the time skip. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Lego3400 (talkcontribs) 23:13, 27 January 2007 (UTC).

Since I feel like expanding upon my edit summary, the following are the changes in rank amongst characters from "debut" to "current" (characters not listed have no change):
  • Naruto Uzumaki: Student → Genin
  • Sasuke Uchiha: Student → Missing-nin
  • Sakura Haruno: Student → Chunin
  • Shikamaru Nara: Student → Chunin
  • Choji Akimichi: Student → Chunin
  • Ino Yamanaka: Student → Chunin
  • Kiba Inuzuka: Student → Chunin
  • Shino Aburame: Student → Chunin
  • Hinata Hyuga: Student → Chunin
  • Rock Lee: Genin → Chunin
  • Neji Hyuga: Genin → Jonin
  • Tenten: Genin → Chunin
  • Tsunade: N/A → Hokage
  • Gaara: Genin → Kazekage
  • Kankuro: Genin → Jonin
  • Temari: Genin → Jonin
  • Kabuto Yakushi: Genin → Missing-nin
Since your intent with the field is most likely to illustrate that most of these characters were Genin for much of Part I, going with "debut rank" doesn't really serve the purpose.
As for the "current rank" being a spoiler, age, relatives, affiliation, team, and jutsu are spoilers too. Do you have an inkling to remove them as well? Besides, most of these "spoilers" appear below the spoiler warning that's in each article, so people are effectively warned. ~SnapperTo 05:27, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed move

Suggestion: does anyone think it would be a good idea to move this template (a character infobox) to Template:Naruto character and move the general Naruto navigation box (Template:Naruto info) to this spot. Considering the functions these templates serve, I think it would make sense. NeoChaosX (talk, walk) 06:48, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

God that would be a pain in the ass, though it would certainly be good for clarity's sake. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 07:56, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Adding an extra word to about 30 mainspace articles (plus a handful of userspace articles) shouldn't be too bad (We wouldn't have to delete the Template:Naruto info space, it could just be left as a redirect to the template). But I understand the reluctance to go through with it. NeoChaosX (talk, walk) 09:16, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
I've moved this to a better title. Another idea is breaking apart our large single info template into smaller ones, like Bleach does. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 09:20, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Here's a starter version I whipped up: Naruto characters. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 09:37, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
That works. Simple and clear. NeoChaosX (talk, walk) 09:42, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Still need to deal with the geography stored lists (land of, etc.), though. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 09:46, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
I made this fugly infobox incorporating the "Land of" articles. I used the Bleach character template's massive grouping of characters to make it smaller, and I used "Leaf" instead of "Konoha" because I couldn't figure out how to fix the margins. Anyway:

I'll take that as meaning it's acceptable. As for Template: Naruto info:

I figured List of characters in Naruto should be included somewhere, but maybe there's a better location for it than what I picked. Also, I couldn't get the Franchise line to be any shorter without thinking up a synonym for "franchise". Any ideas? ~SnapperTo 22:53, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Franchise isn't all that long. They don't need to line up perfectly. Characters is also fine. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 00:01, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Ach! I am probably being petty, but maybe you could do something about the Leaf Ninja section of the characters' box? It is rather text-brickish... Treima 00:27, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Better? I didn't see the need of dropping Jiraiya, Tsunade, Sai, and Yamato down to a new line as they all fit with Team Guy without any unforeseen line-breakage. ~SnapperTo 00:36, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
