[edit] Frisian-Dutch and Dutch-Frisian municipalities

I just added support for Frisian-Dutch and Dutch-Frisian municipalities, so no separate Municipalities for those are needed anymore. (Could this be the Dutch municipality infobox to end all Dutch municipality infoboxes?) For municipalities with an official name in Dutch, and also a name in Frisian, you can use

{{Infobox Dutch municipality 5 |
  name=Leeuwarden | fname=Ljouwert | province=[[Fryslân]] |
  map=LocatieLeeuwarden.png |
  area=84.10 | land=79.74 | water=4.36 |
  population=91,693 | population_year=(2005) | density=1,150 }}

which produces the third box on the right. Likewise, with municipalities that have an official name in Frisian (e.g. Gaasterlân-Sleat), and also a name in Dutch, you should write the Frisian name under the field 'name', and use the extra field 'dname' to provide the Dutch name. For looking up coordinates one can use e.g.:

  • http://www.fallingrain.com/world/NL/ - provides for all towns and many villages in the Netherlands the coordinates: the lists show values rounded to minutes, but in decimal form. The separate page about a town/village also shows degrees/minutes. Note that population figures are for a distance of up to 7 km from the center, hence often much more than for the village.

[edit] Discussion

It would be better if the Coordinates and maps section of Template:Infobox Dutch municipality 4 (talk, backlinks, edit) would be preserved.--Patrick 01:52, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

I added the coords/maps part.--Patrick 03:08, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

I made it optional, for the case that somebody wants to use this template without bothering about coordinates. Please provide them at least when replacing an older version that provides them.--Patrick 10:50, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

Good work, Patrick, the changes to my earlier template are real improvements. Joost
Thanks.--Patrick 11:07, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
I just found out that there is a problem with the links in the coordinates and maps section. It seems the links to MapQuest e.a. in the Maps and Coordinates section expect the coordinates to be given in decimal fractions of degrees, whereas the current template uses degrees. E.g. on Andijk, 52.45° N 5.10° E is interpreted by the maps as meaning 52.45 N, 5.10 E, which is somewhere on Marken. It seems there is an easy solution at least for MapQuest, but for some of the other systems, we still need some thought. Nevermind, I just saw the intention actually is to give the coordinates in decimals. Joost 01:18, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
