Inferior mirage created by a thin, warm layer of air near the surface of the west arm of Grand Traverse Bay in winter. Image taken from Bryant Park in Traverse City, Michigan looking north-northwest along the Leelanau Peninsula. The nearest land, on the left, is approximately 3 miles (5 km) away, the land seen in the mirage itself is 5-10 miles (8-16 km) distant. |
