[edit] Media Mess up
I was going through the media articles on the web searching for the awardees of Indira Gandhi Prize till date. The following are the interesting/contentious stuff I found out..
- Indira Gandhi Prize / Indira Gandhi Peace Prize / Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development are one and the same and are given internationally.
- However, there are other awards in the name of Indira Gandhi too (Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration) which are given nationally, which are again mentioned in the media as Indira Gandhi Prize! This should not be confused with the above. There is only one Indira Gandhi Peace Prize and that is the one mentioned above!
- The National Award for Best Direction in the National Awards for Films category is also called as Indira Gandhi Award!
- The M S Swamination Foundation Website [1] mentions that the award was for 2000. Actually the award was for 1999 but given in 2000. Every year usually on Nov 19th/20th (say in 1999), the award for next year (say for 2000) is announced and is awarded next year Nov 19th (in this case, on Nov 20, 2000).
For the year 1996, there have been mention African National Congress Website of Nelson Mandela being awarded Indira Gandhi Prize for International Justice and Harmony. This isn't that award.- However for the same year Medicins Sans Frontieres was awarded the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development (see MSF Archives and The Hindu Archives). But, Nelson Mandela and Mohammad Yunus (who was also a recipient of Indira Gandhi Prize) shared the Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2000.
Since Nelson Mandela is a notable personality, I'm not sure if we could remove him from the list. In that case, the information on ANC website should be disproved. Or that particular award should have been a special award. I didn't find anything about it so far.For the year 1987, I found Nicholas Dunlop was the co-recipient for his work on e-Parliament, an initiative that brings parlimentarians of the world together. I've not been able to find the other co-recipients. I'm not able to verify if all those recipients received it on behalf of some organisation. It was for the organisation called Parliamentarians for Global Action.

[edit] Norodom Sihanouk
There were a couple of news reports mentioning Cambodian King Norodom Sihanouk was awarded the prize for 2002. It was announced in Nov 2002 [8] [9]. However in Nov 2003, it was Shridath Ramphal who was given the prize at a ceremony [10]. I couldn't find anything related to Norodom Sihanouk been awarded. This needs clarification -- Chez (Discuss / Email) • 08:03, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
