[edit] Band list

I removed Todosantos and The Twilight Lieutenants since they seemed very, very unknown. I used both Google and Last.fm searches. If anyone can prove their notability, feel free to put them back on the list. Imaginaryoctopus(talk) 21:38, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

Since when does a lack of internet presence make something unknown? Google is great and all, but there are millions of things on this globe that won't generate results...does that make them irrelevant also? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 168.56.37.8 (talkcontribs) 11:39, March 15, 2006 (UTC)
I should have been more specific in my reason for the removal of these bands. They were removed because I felt as though they did not meet the guidelines put forth in Wikipedia:Notability (music). Google and Last.fm searches were a component of, but not the entire basis for, my decision. I could have been mistaken; for instance, Todosantos is Venezuelan, so I (being from the U.S.) may not fully understand their notability. I stand by the bands' removal; however, I once again invite anyone who can produce evidence of notability according to Wikipedia guidelines to re-add them. I personally was using this term in 2001 to describe my own group's music, luna spark, not that I can prove it or anything...

Who else here disagrees with Architecture in Helsinki been classified as indie electronic? Most would say they are indie pop, maybe even twee pop, but definitely not indie electronic! --Tarzipan 10:05, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

I certainly agree with you in saying that they are in the fringes of the genre, but genres themselves are so ambiguous that a debate such as this could carry on forever. I think that Architecture in Helsinki certainly have indie electronic elements with loops and the fact that they uses synthesizers and samplers. Uh, in short they are defiantly indie pop, but i think they are sometimes VERY indie electronic but hey thats just me and my opinion. so who knows. (chubbstar) 18:35, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Also known as

  • Isn't it also know as indie electronic? 01:35, 18 May 2006 (UTC)Tarzipan
    • I agree. "electronic indie" is used minimally when copmared to "indie electronic". indie electronic is the more pervasive term me thinks. I know i myself call it that as opposed to anything else and have never heard "electronic indie". It also makes more sense from a linguistical point of view cuz you can see how the words combine into "indietronic".(chubbstar) 19:25, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Redlinks

  • I dunno about the rest of you wikipedians out there but i think that providing a redlinked artist seems kinda useless. I removed two redlinks Scholars and Fellows and Silver Apples just now. Id assumed that if an article is written for them they can be justly readded. The following is a list of other artists previously redlinked and deleted: Safety Scissors, Headphones, Hexes & Ohs, The Chap, Say Hi to Your Mom, FoamBox, Blazer (band). (chubbstar) 03:29, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
    • Readded The Chap for it has an article now. (chubbstar) 07:05, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
      • Removed redlink Donna Regina and readded The Silver Apples. —(chubbstar) talk | contrib | 20:30, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
        • Removed Hexes & Ohs, The Westward Trail, Ok Ikumi, Forest World and the boygirlmachine until an article is created for them. ——(chubbstar) talk | contrib | 07:36, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Genre Definition

I don't believe Stereolab, Air, múm, Lali Puna, The Notwist, Imogen Heap, Frou Frou, Architecture in Helsinki, and Broadcast should be on this list as they are considered 'Ambient Pop' by a considerable amount of music related organizations. Also their sound can be described as electronica by only the loosest of definitions. It occurs to me that there is no Wikipedia article for Ambient Pop, but perhaps it's time that one is created. Considering that this article was kept on an argument of relevance citing Google hits I believe that Ambient Pop has more of a case.

The Allmusic page for Ambient Pop: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=77:4554 The Amazon category for Ambient Pop: http://www.amazon.com/Ambient-Pop-Indie-Lo-Fi-Music/b?ie=UTF8&node=602092 67.185.48.6 08:16, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

I for one would probly agree with you but am certianly in no position to make an argument for you. Genre defination it risky buisness and i usually refrain from making asethetic value or qualifcation judgements, but if you feel that the exsit so far outside the "Indietronica" genre then feel free to remove them or perhaps make another section called "Indietronica Influences" or something like that. Oh, and if you made an "ambient pop" article id gladly contribute to it. ——(chubbstar) talk | contrib | 16:29, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
