Indonesian American

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Indonesian Americans are Americans of Indonesian descent. Indonesia is an archipelagic nation in the region of Southeast Asia. Indonesian Americans are among the largest Southeast Asian ethnic group in the United States after the Filipino Americans, Vietnamese Americans, Cambodian Americans, and Thai Americans. Although Indonesia is the fourth largest population in the world, there are far fewer proportions of Indonesian Americans when compared to other Asian Americans. One core reason is that the U.S. and Indonesia was never in a military conflict. The absent of such conflict is due to Indonesians being able and successful in eliminating and purging every communist from the country. Their population, as recorded in the US Census 2000, is approximately 70,000 and about 3,000 Indonesian nationals immigrate to the United States annually.
