Individually Modulated LED

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Individually modulated light-emitting diode (IMLED) is a backlighting technology licensed by BrightSide Technologies Inc. applied to LCD monitors and television. It consists of an array of individually modulated LED semiconductors. Each LED has 256 brightness steps, where step 0 switchs the LED off and step 255 switchs it at maximum luminance. That way, the device can display true black and very bright white, with a contrast ratio of 200,000:1, where minimal luminance is 0 cd/m² and maximal luminance is almost 4000 cd/m². This technology is very useful for HDR imaging.

The first product to use IMLED technology is the BrightSide DR37-P HDR display.
