Indigo League

The Indigo League is a tournament in the first season of the Pokémon Anime series, and a final destination in the Pocket Monsters first generation (Red/Blue/Green/Yellow) series.

The Indigo League is located in the Northwest partition of the Kanto region and it requires eight badges to enlist in the tournament. Before competing in the Sekiei/Indigo league champion, the trainers first compete in four different battle fields, Ice, Water, Rock, and Grass as a part of the preliminary rounds. Each using three Pokémon for each trainer. After the preliminaries, the top sixteen trainers whom have lasted the preliminaries compete against each other, they are allowed to use up to six Pokémon each.

Anime

It is here where Ash of Pallet Town competes in his first competition. Ash makes it to the final sixteen where he loses to Richie.

The Indigo league is one of the most prestigious tournaments ranking among others like the Johto Silver Conference and the Hoeen League Champions.

Entry

To enter the Indigo Leauge, trainers must collect a bare minimum of eight official league badges from designated Pokémon Gyms located throughout the Kanto region.

Video Games

As with all final destinations throughout the Pokémon generations, the player must pass through the path of Victory Road which provides a challenging environment to improve the levels of the player's monsters along with simple puzzles often with the involvement of pushing large boulders. The player encounters numerous trainers in which to improve battling skills. After the challenge of Victory Road has been passed, the player has completed the prerequisites and gains entry to the Indigo League.
