Indian Red Cross

The Indian Red Cross is charitable organization in India. The IRC has 35 state and territorial branches and 700 district or sub-branches across India providing charity and medical services. It initially worked closely with St. John's Ambulance of India and a member of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Established in 1920 under the Indian Parliament Act XV when India was under British rule and was created as a separate organization from the British Red Cross. The Indian Red Cross Act was revised in 1992 and 1994.

The overall operations of the IRC is lead by the Secretary General. The President of IRC is represented by the President of India and the Union Minister of Health and Faimly Welfare as Chairman of the IRC since 1947.
