IndiPop

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

IndiPop is a fusion of Indian and Western musical styles.

For most of its history, the Hindi movie was the de facto medium for Indian pop singers. In 1981, Nazia Hassan changed the pop landscape with the release of the film-unaffiliated Disco Deewanein. After a decade of sporadic releases by artists such as Remo Fernandes, IndiPop evolved into a serious art form in the 1990s with the advent of local music channels such as MTV and Channel V that gave artists a visual medium to counter the monopoly of the silver screen.

The current breed of IndiPop artists include Alisha Chinai, Adnan Sami and Shaan.
