Independent Monitoring Board

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Independent Monitoring Boards (IMB) are statutory bodies whose purpose is to monitor the welfare of prisoners and immigration detainees in the UK and to ensure that they are properly cared for whilst in custody and detention. Every Immigration Removal Centre (IRC) and Prison in the UK is monitored by an IMB. Boards consist of members of the public appointed by the Home Secretary to fulfill this task. Board members hold keys and have access at any time to every part of the Prison and IRC and to all prisoners and detainees.
