International Catamarans, trading as Incat, is a manufacturer of large-scale HSC catamarans based in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. The company builds large commercial and military vessels that use aluminium construction, wave-piercing and water jet technology. Vessels have been constructed up to 98 metres in length and cruise at 40 knots. An Incat vessel is the holder of the Blue Riband Trophy for the fastest sea crossing of the Atlantic ocean.
Several catamarans built by Incat have entered naval services, including HMAS Jervis Bay (AKR-45), best known for its contribution to the INTERFET in East Timor, and HSV-1 Joint Venture and HSV-2 Swift, both having been in service with the US military.
In the late 90's and early 2000's the company was in severe financial strife and heavily in debt to the Tasmanian Government. It found its way out of this financial crisis after it received renewed contracts to build catamarans from oversees corporations and the US military.
