In Vain

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"In Vain" is a band from Gothenburg, Sweden. The band was put together in November '98 by brothers Robert and Patric Tindvall for a one-gig event in the Gothenburg-suburb of Torslanda. Drummer Daniel Karlsson & vocalist Patrik Wikström teamed up to create a full line-up. As the gig turned out extremely well, and we developed a certain taste for the whole thing, we decided to keep the band going.

The earliest of stuff we wrote was slow paced doom with a groovy touch to it; much like Anathema's Pentecost III. Due to our rapid evolvment, growling vocalist Wikström soon left the band as the music became too complex and required clean vocals. Around the same time evergrinning guitarrist Johan Hasselblom joins the band to broaden the spectre.

We went without a singer for quite some time, until we ultimately found a new one; longtime friend of the band Tobbe Berg. It didn't take too long though before he left the band, also. Yet another painstaking vocalist search went down. And again we were without a vocalist for several months. When Wretched Will was to be featured on a compilation CD in the year 2000, we came in contact with Magnus Christiansson, who were willing to do the vocals on that song for us. Magnus, who's got a long history in the doommetal genre, performance on Wretched Will had us sold at once. We'd finally found our singer.

November 2001 saw the release of our first demo/MCD. Pretentiously entitled 'Serenades of the Wretched', it featured 6 tracks spanning 36 minutes. The album has been well received across the face of the planet, wherever sent (see reviews); "In an era where Swedish metal is proving to be the most innovative in the international metal scene, In Vain more than deserves to lead the pack." Right now we're in the midst of writing the foundation on which our leadership will be based.. Stay tuned to witness the outcome..
