"In God's Country" is the seventh track and fourth single from U2's 1987 album, The Joshua Tree. Bono has stated that he was initially writing about Ireland, but in the end it became about America.[citation needed]
"In God's Country" was released as a single in Canada and the U.S. Nevertheless, it charted in the United Kingdom as an import. Sales of the single were likely hampered by the fact that it was accompanied not by traditional B-sides, but by two other tracks from The Joshua Tree.[citation needed]
The song appears in the U2 rockumentary Rattle and Hum with one verse missing. It is also used in the closing credits of the movie Three Kings.
The Canadian release was available on 7", 12" and cassette, while the US release was limited to 7" only. The B-sides and cover art are identical to the New Zealand-only single release of "One Tree Hill".
