Talk:IMVU

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Per an email request on the 26th, I deleted a few revisions to this article, to remove potentially defamatory allegations. I don't think I removed anything important - the only other content was a lot of fiddling with the external links section. If anyone has queries, let me know here. [edit] List of social networking vvebsites on AfD

List of social networking vvebsites is currently an AfD candidate. You are invited to partake in this discussion. Czj 18:55, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Exploitable code

I'm assuming we shouldn't add infomation on how to type 1 small sentance in a chat to gain any product without paying for it, eh? :) 69.177.230.136 12:43, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

The above mentioned code has since been removed. DanPMK 13:14, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Kids

Per the "dry humping" action, i'm assuming this isn't for kids, right? --S-man 22:19, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

They don't monitor content very well, no. You need to buy a mature pass to buy mature material, but dry humping is fair game for anyone, as well as pole dancing. DanPMK 23:04, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
However, they do say that it is for anyone 13 years or older.

not like that really helps! myspace has 9 year old members.

[edit] Too much of an ad?

A lot of positive-connotation opinion words that don't seem to be justified. Shouldn't this be rewritten to be less of a commercial for IMVU? - Jaysbro 17:59, 3 October 2006 (UTC)0

I agree this is fairly bias. There should be a criticism section, for example it could include charging for the avatars, which imo are pointless.Superway25 01:46, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] how do u get rid of imvu

i don't like it any more. how do i get rid of imvu

You uninstall it, and this is a talk page on Wikipedia, not a help forum. And if you don't know how to uninstall it, just don't use it. Conundrumer 19:13, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Competitors

Going to remove this, these competitors range from Clients, to Websites. Granted this is more a client than anything, i think it'd be better to remove it all and start again. Jonomacdrones 21:27, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Homepages

I think you need to emphasize the home pages more, since it is a very important part of IMVU. Vye 05:29, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Vye

[edit] Furries

Is the 'Furries' section really that necessary? 'Cause it looks more like an ad than anything else.Axe995 03:02, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

What's a Furry?

I agree, this section is superfluous and doesn't fit. There (or at least were) a lot of goths in the community. There are also a lot of Anime fans in it, but that sort of community demographic isn't pertinent to a functional discussion of what IMVU is.

--Boogiepanda 19:44, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

So, can I destroy it? Axe995 03:45, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] References

Ummm hate to ask but why do some for the references refer back to the page itself?! Doobuzz 13:39, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Not a Game

I would suggest in some future revision all references to IMVU as a "game" be changed. It is a chat program, a social network, a virtual community, but by no means is it even close to being a game. It currently does not even have gaming elements though this is supposed to be on the horizon. Even when it does get gaming elements, it will still not primarily be a "game". [edit] Addressing any non-NPOV

Please add any thoughts about addressing any non-NPOV aspects of the article. Thanks! TJJFV 18:39, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

I added that template while hunting down 71.231.199.94's addition of IMVU related spam to a number of articles, and with his contributions to this page removed, I realize now that it does not categorize as spam. It's a very nicely written article about the features of this program without making any exagerated claims. I'll remove the template, but I wonder if anyone has information regarding the history of this program's development, other programs the designers drew ideas and inspiration from, business deals made with regards to this program, or other programs created to compete with it. Something to show the article is here for more than just to explain the features of IMVU, which is what lead me to mark it in the first place. But I appologize if I was biased by one annonymous editor's spam. Someguy1221 20:27, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Furries section revision

I have revised the section on Furries to consist of what seems to be verifiable. The possibly worthwhile, but seemingly original analysis that I removed is listed below for easy review:

These individuals were likely drawn by a few factors; the first being the ability to don any form. The second is likely the (mostly) laid back and accepting community. All are welcome on IMVU, and that is the general feel of the chats. A third possibility is the ability for one to express themselves as they see fit, an ability often not offered to furries and those like them. On IMVU, one can be who they want, make what they want, and not have to worry about cultural taboos or setting somebody off because of who they are.

[edit] Acronym

Does anyone know what IMVU stands for? This would seem like something useful to include in this entry.Robferrer 15:22, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
