I was reading the rajput talk page
I hope you are not leaving the Rajput page. You, more than anyone else, brought so much good and hope that I was at peace with letting the article go without any of my input. Please let me know what your thoughts are. And I do wish to work on other articles with you, prefer. about family members since there will be no room for insulting exchanges. Dargah and khanqah
I think the problem is that pilgrimage sites, graves, and Sufi gathering places overlap in interesting ways. They're often associated, but not necessarily. You tell me -- is the understanding of dargah in South Asia that it is primarily the grave of a Sufi saint, to which people make pilgrimages? Are the Sufi halls for dhikr, hostels, and dwelling places for the sheykh or caretaker conceptually separate from the dargah?
We may need to undo the redirect and write an article just for dargah. Zora 20:32, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, I'm not an authority. I'm learning as I go along. These articles are going to have to be a group creation. So far it seems to be going well. Zora 21:01, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Hi
ImpuMozhi I've just read your goodbye note on the Rajput page. I agree with Gorkhali on this one, you must stay. You have indeed made the article MUCH MUCH more encyclopedic and informative. You made more progress in this short period than many of us were able to for months. Please, please return if only for us poor old folk who are in need of your medicinal eloquence and tireless neutrality? This is my official request for you bro. I understand your angst and I apologise for any offence anyone on my MR side has caused to you. You're a shining example of a true Indian and I am proud to know you bro. Please comeback?--Raja 22:31, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Maratha articles
This guy Vishal Dudhane has been flooding wikipedia with ridiculous myths see Maratha Clan System, Rajput Clans. Can yeh help me to keep a watch on all Maratha related articles? अमेय आर्यन DaBroodey 11:45, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
I've quit editing medieval and pre-modern Indian history articles, too many idiots sticking their dicks where they dont belong. May be you could keep a watch on the idiots at Maratha artciles, they have been running a riot all over wiki lately. Frankly i see no point in devoting my time to meticulous and impartial research only to have morons ruin my stuff. अमेय आर्यन DaBroodey 09:55, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
Maratha articles
Dear Impumozi,
If the article is saying about Maratha that must not talk about Brahmin. The Maratha cast is now a single cast and don't have subcasts. If the question comes Why the subcast were present? The answer is, if you do not follow the strict rules placed for community by the community then some people are degraded to subcast, or according to the social status they have their relations. Now the lines are blured so their should not be any discussion on this. At presently there are no subcasts previously they were not there. This was the policy of some other cast member which was a mere servent to the kings for the knowledgebase they have - to seperate the group of the Maratha's and rule them. Hence forth I would like to request you to remove all the contradictory statements from your pages. If you want me to contribute on this topic I will try my level to remove the confusion on this topic.
Message to other cast friends - Please do not include your views on maratha community. Time is changing and every Maratha is realising how the history was changed and crippled to speak untruth.

Theragatha Merger
The Theragatha and Therigatha are indeed seperate texts- it's two different genders of the word thera, elder. The Theragatha deals with monks, the Therigatha with nuns. Since they are seperate works, I would advocate keeping them as seperate articles. They're a little sparse now, but there is certainly expansion that could be done for both. The Therigatha is particularly interesting for folks interested in gender roles in Buddhism, since it's an entire text dealing solely with the lives and roles of women. --Clay Collier 20:33, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

Carnatic region
Hello, ImpuMozhi. I was wondering why you placed a verify tag on Carnatic region. I have removed it, but do not want to do so if there is indeed a problem. The article came from the 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica, which is noted at the bottom of the page. Is this insufficient or do you believe the text is incorrect? Thanks, Kjkolb 10:46, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
- Okay. I put the tag back on the article and posted your comments of the article's talk page for explanation, since a link would have been broken when I archive my talk page. Thanks, Kjkolb 04:50, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

Hello from Vishal P Dudhane -- Vishal1976
Hello brother Impumozi. You are doing grate. Today on 6-04-2006 i read your work and picture on Maratha clan system. It was grate to see. I gotta some comments from AMbroodey alias Dabroodey . He is an idiot or may be very clever who is trying to fool us.we should not pay atention towards such garbage.
O.K MAY GOD BLESS YOU

OH so i am an idiot here. I refrain from making personal attacks Vishal but it YOU who are acting like one here. For starters you need to take more English (and Computer) lessons. Making personal attacks can get you banned. Your knowldege of our history basically comes from myths. You certainly do not suscribe to impartial and objective examination of history. Please note i have nothing against you its just that whatever work you submit should have factual basis for it otherwise i WILL delete it with extreme prejudice. अमेय आर्यन DaBroodey 21:46, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
Rajput
it has little to do with your religious affiliation (which is it again?), and more with the fact that I am very tired of the article, and that I am extremely busy (I know I am editing Slavic peoples at the moment, that's because I have to do a lecture on the topic on Monday). regards, dab (ᛏ) 16:02, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
- I know, Impu, my question (which is it again?) was rhetorical (meaning, I look at article revisions, not at editors or their backgrounds). I know you are a good faith editor, and I am glad you are looking after that poor battered article just now :) dab (ᛏ) 16:25, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
Modesty
ImpuMozhi, I think that you're completely wrong on the subject of the sari always over the shoulder -- and for probably the same reason that you're being squeamish about the word "choli". Before the British arrived, Indian clothing was considerably less modest than it is now. I now have Chantal Boulanger's book. On page 19, she says:
- In the past, women wore dhotis just as men did ... From the 14th century onwards, women's clothes started to develop in a very different way from those of men. The number of yards required become longer and the shawl that sometimes covered their shoulders was transformed into the upper part of teh sari, the mundanai. By the 19th century, the colonial attitudes imported from Victorian Britain considered dhotis to be "indecent" for women and in some castes, women adopted the drape so that it covered their breast
Which explains Madisar saris -- Brahmin women keeping the old dhoti drape and just adding extra cloth for the shoulders.
On the same page, Boulange says that the fishtail sari was worn by fashionable South Indian women during the 17th century. Picture shows women with nothing on top.
I have confirmation of the lack of coverage of the upper body from a 19th century work I proofed for Distributed proofreaders, showing a South Indian woman in a lungi and nothing else, and also numerous citations from South India saying that covering the upper body in the presence of higher castes was forbidden to lower caste women -- they had to uncover.
Also, Boulanger uses the word choli extensively.
This is a woman who has spent years in India, talking to women of all castes and classes, and collecting various sari drapes. She would know if choli were a dirty word. Zora 04:52, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
- P.S. I think that the saris were draped in the Odissi dance performance (Nrityagram troupe) I saw. Because the beautiful zig-zag tucking on the bottom disappeared in the course of the performance. It wouldn't have done that if it had been stitched in place. There may however have been a draped bottom and a stitched top, separate, and the join covered by the belt. Dunno. Wish I could have followed those ladies backstage and asked questions. Thought I would find the answer in Boulanger or online, and didn't. Zora 05:00, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
-
- Ah, so it's the use of a HINDI word that's the problem. Well, what are the words corresponding to choli in the other Indian languages? We can put them all.
-
- Appearing in public in just a choli? I saw that in innumerable Bharatnatyam pictures I checked out in search of the drape I saw.
-
- As for the backless part -- the skimpiest cholis I ever saw were in a National Geographic article on a group settled in the foothills of the Himalayas. They really were nothing but a front piece, short sleeves, and strings. It is not just Bollywood movies. Zora 06:01, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Maidan
Not sure exactly what to make of your last post; the reference for the article Maidan (Karnataka) was the 1911 Encyclopaedia Britannica. While the 1911 Encyclopaedia Britannica is hardly an infallible source, it certainly one that has been around for longer than 3 weeks, and one which even predates the Wikipedia. I did some googling myself and found a few more recent references:
- "The State is divided into three major physiographic divisions-the Deccan Plateau, hill ranges and the coastal plain. The plateau is divided into Malnad and Maidan. The Ghats with evergreen and semi-evergreen forests constitute the core of the Malnad. Malnad is an undulating upland covering 6.2 Mha in the districts of Belgaum, Uttara Kannada, Dharwad, Chikmagalur, Kodagu and Hassan. The Maidan lies east of the Malnad and has a rolling surface with gentle slopes. It is further subdivided into the northern and the southern Maidan. The landscape characteristics of the southern Maidan are a series of rolling granite hills between Tumkur and Kolar districts. The northern Maidan has a mountainous, treeless expansive plateau."

- "Two-thirds of the Amrithmahal cattle breeding tract lies in the Southern Maidan (i.e. central dry zone) and one- third in the hilly tract of the state (southern transitional zone). The Southern maidan is characterized by undulating or rolling landscape with wide-open broad valleys and elevation ranging about 450 to 760 meters from the sea level. It largely forms the base for the catchment area of Cauvey, Thungabadra, Yagachi and Vedavati rivers etc.
- "The hilly tract is not continuous, abruptly rises with elevated peaks, again broken up forming trenches/ravines adjoining with low croplands. It has an elevation ranging from 900 to 1500 meters from mean sea level. Malnad area also forms a of hilly tract which is characterized by splendid ghats with their gorgeous outlook, water falls, river captures and the watersheds, often interlaced with denser ever green and/or semi evergreen forests."

- "Karnataka has a range of climates varying from the very moist monsoon climate on the coastal and hilly areas to the semi-arid climate of the northern districts. The most significant physiographic feature in the State is the Western Ghats, which act as a “climatic divide” between a western tract of heavy rainfall and a dry eastern tract of low rainfall. The state is comprised of four regions and each region is represented by one district in the questionnaire survey: the coastal (Dakshina Kannada), the Malnad (Shimoga), the northern Maidan (Bijapur), and the southern Maidan (Kolar)."

- Jennifer Brown, Kripa Ananthpur & Renee Giovarelli, Women’s Access and Rights to Land in Karnataka. Rural Development Institute, Seattle, WA [5]
The references generally use the same geographic scheme of Western Ghats - Malnad - Maidan, and usually in the context of an agro-climatic zone.
So perhaps I did make this whole Maidan thing up. Maybe all of these references, from recent government reports to references dating back to 1911, can be traced back to an inaccurate Wikipedia article. But seeing as that is rather improbable, perhaps, since the definition in it more or less matches that used by the majority of references, maybe we tolerate the presence of the little Maidan article here among the million or so other articles on Wikipedia. Cross referencing articles that describe the various ways of parsing Karnataka (administrative, geographic, historic, ecoregions, etc.) is worthwhile, but I don't see the necessity of getting rid of it altogether.
Cheers,
Tom Radulovich 06:00, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not annoyed, or emotional; just trying to figure out where you are going with all this.
- The 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica article for Mysore begins thus: "MYSORE, a native state of southern India, almost surrounded by the Madras Presidency, but in political relations with the governor-general. It is naturally divided into two regions of distinct character: the hill country called the Malnad, on the west, and'the more open country known as the Maidan, comprising the greater part of the state, where the wide-spreading valleys and plains are covered with villages and populous towns." If this is the case, then Mysore (region) is not exactly synonymous with the southern Maidan; It would, if it corresponds to the former princely state of Mysore, include both the southern Maidan and the southern Malnad, as well as the eastern slope of the Western Ghats. Rajputs
I with due respect do not agree with you .Rajputs as such are a cummunity or a social group .They are not all history .They have a present and a future. So the category Rajputs should be more appropriate under social groups of India and Rajasthan rather than purely under history categories. Also some in the category Rajput cheiefs you have created have no relation to Rajasthan .And many Rajput cheiefs of Rajasthan were not only Rajputs but they were important figures in history of Rajsthan. There is no harm in tagging those pages to history of Rajasthan category. There are numerous articles on wikipedia with multiple categories . Re:Hi
The request put up on the Indian notice board was for an article on Hindi Wikipedia and not a request for the wiki itself (I am aware about the existence of hi.wikipedia). Wikipedia has an article on German Wikipedia, so I made a request on the noticeboard for an article on the Hindi Wikipedia, which is a sister project. Thanks for your kind words. --Andy123(talk) 14:01, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

- You posted a vandalism warning on User:203.88.135.218. It is the same IP from which I am editing. I introduced some students to editing, they quickly realised that they can also vandalise. Their main intention with this edit was to make changes to my user page, and as I have a link to the Indian Noticeboard template, they were able to click on the link and make changes. Now, I have reported this matter on #wikipedia, but they do not have any technical solution for it, except to block this ip, if it continues to vandalise other spheres on Wikipedia, and with that I would be blocked too. --Andy123(talk) 14:44, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Re: Causeway
Hi! Yes, I do remember you :-). I don't know if it's DNK worthy as the causeway did not link the city with the mainland, it linked it with the northern island of Salsette. If you feel its DYK worthy, you can also list it.
I'm not sure on the Reclaimation part, as the boundary lines are a bit blurry. For example its ok to have articles on Amboli, Saki Naka, Versova, Four Bungalows etc along with a parent Andheri. So going by this formula, I guess having a BR should be fine if we can sharpen its boundaries.
Well done on the Avabai article! It's a real good expansion. What's missing are the sources. Could you please add them? Thanks and regards =Nichalp «Talk»= 18:19, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- He he! sorry about the reference, my oversight. I believe this was the first overland route which connected the city to the suburbs. Salsette was previously under Portuguese hands, and the Hornby Vellard project began to take shape only at the end of the late 18th century. =Nichalp «Talk»= 07:32, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Hail
Hi, and thanks for your mssg. Regarding myself I felt inclined to edit a few pages relating to Indian history particularly the pages where my limited (yet quite specialised) knowledge may be of essence. It would not be inappropriate if I state that I am a Kachwaha prince, as my grandfather was the earthwhile Maharaja of Jaipur, Sawai Man Singh II (although I never got to meet him as he passed away 10 years before I was born). Anyhow, my name is Devraj Singh, Raja of Isarda although I also use my Thai name of Devraj Rangsit when I am in Thailand (due to my parent's divorce). I have been trying to update/correct the Kachawaha page but since I am quite new to editing it wasn't so neat. Anyhow, someone has helped me in that matter, so it looks much better now.
By the way, when you have time could you briefly tell me how to add Photos in to the articles?
Many thanks
Devraj
Thanks!

reviewing me
Hi ImpuMozhi - I hope you'll have some time to give comments at Wikipedia:Editor review/Rama's Arrow. We had a difficult exchange over PII, on which I regret losing my temper and I hope to obtain your frank criticism and opinion on how to improve myself. Please do spare a few minutes for this. Rama's Arrow 13:54, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
- No ImpuMozhi, there is no hierarchy on Wikipedia. I would value your comments and advice. People younger to me teach me good things, so why should I seek light only from the seniors? There were serious misunderstandings between us on PII. I regret not giving a mature response, but I appreciate your respect for my work.
Lemme tell you this - I understand and respect the point you made about rmving the sections on States Reorganization, states creation and Punjab/NE insurgency. I gave it close consideration in March and April, but I feel that in a summarized form, they should remain a part of the article. We cannot make an assertion that only events between 1947 and 1950 are classified as "political integration of India," especially when in the 1970s and 1980s there were real changes of disintegration of the parts of the union.
If you have direct access to that Menon book you cited, please use it to incorporate as much info as you deem appropriate into PII. If the size of the article substantially increases on this point, I will agree for the removal of the states creation sections, for then they will be in the way of the main topic. If you see the earliest versions of the article that I wrote, you'll see that SRA, insurgency and states creation were very small sections. They were enlarged by Tom Radulovich and developed further by me and others during the PR.
Cheers, and please post any advice you may have for me on editor's review. I appreciate this opportunity to talk frank with you. Rama's Arrow 02:56, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Ave
Hi, wow many thanks for your friendly help and kindness and for the suggestions of pages to edit as well. Earlier on I did take the liberty to edit parts of Gayatri devi's page as well as Jagat Singh ji's page. I must admit however, that there are certain figures (quite many actually) from my paternal side whom I don't feel qualified enough to edit, although I may have books that may assist me in doing so in the future. At the moment I am trying to finish my MAs thesis (hopefully by next week) and I will surely to contribute more by then. My other fields of keen interests includes military history as well as the history and cultures of Asia and their interconnected doctrines/world view.
Anyhow, thanks again, and please let me know or correct my mistakes if I do (or edit) something that is inappropriate for wikipedia's standards/regulations.
May I commend this page to your attention. I am sure you will wish to provide more detail to it. We do look forward to receiving images as well, for this and other articles. Regards, ImpuMozhi 16:27, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Maharaj Jagat Singh's title.
Hi many thanks for your corrections and your patience! Regarding M.Jagat Singh, he was known as 'Maharaj Jagat Singh of Jaipur, Raja of Isarda' (his full title) other wise he is just known formally as 'Maharaj Jagat Singh of Jaipur'. As you know, his titled changed following the death of his father from 'Maharaj Kumar' to Maharaj.
Much regards Devraj
Maps
Hi glad to help! It's nothing about being tech-savy to draw maps :) It just requires a little patience and some trial and error. I too didn't know much about drawing and had to rely on people to draw maps in my early days here. But the need to produce good diagrams and maps, and not rely on others too much led me to learn to draw on my own.
The first thing you'd need to do is to download Inkscape. It's a free vector illustration tool and is available on multiple platforms. These day's all maps are recommended to be drawn in the svg file format, so it's best you try this out. Get to know the interface a bit and go through the tutorials first. This should not take more than 45 mins.
To draw a map, you'd need to get a reference map first. After you get one, open the image in inkspace. Now start to trace over the boundaries and you'll have your map. Note: The tracing method is perfectly legal as it does not violate any copyright laws. (Political and geographic boundaries cannot be copyrighted).
I'll let you in on this much for today. I'll let you on to some more tips on drawing maps after you finish your tutorials. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 09:36, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
- Nichalp is incorrect in interpretation of copyright law. Tracing things is creates a derivative work and thus is covered by copyright law. The political boundaries are facts and thus cannot be copyrighted. However a map is a particular tangiable representation of those polictical boundaries with creative decisions made to produce it and consequently falls under the artistic work provisions of copyright law. Jagat Singh of Jaipur
Hi, I noticed that I didn 't answer your questions at all in the last mssg I posted.. anyhow, I think Prince 'Jagat Singh of Jaipur', may be appropriate? Since other Jagat Singhs mostly have their own differentiated titular titles. Such as Sawai Jagat Singh or Jagat Singh of Mewar. However, if you do not think it is suitable, then I leave it for you to decide, as I don't trust my own (lack of) academic discipline. Many thanks Devraj
"According to the WP:MOSBIO conventions followed on Wikipedia, titles are not to be used at all; The page-name "Prince Jagat Singh" is not unambiguous, since there are others known by the same name Please let me know what page-name, harmonious with these conventions, you would prefer, and I could do the needful. Meeting Mr Bhadaniji
Saw the message to Mr Bhadaniji. Day before yesterday came to Chennai India from Auckland, NZ, for a stay of about an year. I tried your Baraha at NZ. It is excellent. One thing is that I have to practice it. I had no time there. Hope to find time here. May go to Ahemedabad by end of this month for a stay of about 10 days. Then I will be back to Chennai. Shall definitely practice Kannada. My kannada is the old Mysore State kannada and not the present Dharwad kannada. Shall try more on my return. Thanking you once again for all the help. Copy sent to Mr Bhadaniji.

It's just I hate seeing obvious sockpuppets being used and their sockpuppeteers getting away with it, and that one in particular seemed to be stalking you and reverting all edits. Telex 23:02, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi,
Unfortunately, not much is online. Second is, wikipedia does require it to be a low resolution version. But if one is found, we could probably use it.
Approach 1: Try reason and courtesy
Dear Mr. Mozhi,
What exactly is the idea of pushing garbage on my homepage repeatedly? I have counted two page defacement attacks by you in the past one week.
I don't care what filth you throw onto other user's pages, just stay clear of my homepage. Is that clear? You leave my homepage alone and I promise to respect the sanctity of your homepage. Do we have a deal? I am Saubhag Singh and I am in process of getting my old username back. In the meantime I have every inclination to protect my old page against crass mudslinging.
I hope (against hope) that you have brains enough to understand straight talk.
Have a nice day.

- Pages deleted by admins can be viewed by other admins. Since you categorised it, anyone with deletion rights could delete the entries in category if they monitor it regularly. As for the copyrights, yes I was a little brief, I've expanded the same at Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Blank map of India. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 09:25, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for catching the spelling mistake. You may have informed me of the error and i would have taken care of it. Thanks for your time and effort. Siddiqui 12:06, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
Bhangra -> Bhangda move
Hi,
I'm a bit puzzled by this move. I presume it's because Devanagari Rra is represented with Dda + Nukta (ड़). However this is formally transliterated and pronounced as 'ṛ' (in ISO 15919 and in IAST). Also, I've never ever seen Bhangda used. In addition, in Punjabi (the language of Bhangra), Rra is a distinct character ੜ and has no relation to ਡ (ड in Devanagari).
I hope this is enough to convince you of the need to move it back and place a redirect from Bhangda! Thanks. Sukh | ਸੁਖ | Talk 17:49, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
Inactivity
Hi ImpuMozhi, thanks for your touching words. It doesn't appear that I'll find enough time before 2007, so my editcount(iti)s may be limited to 100-200 per month. Hence, I felt it was "about time" to move myself to inactive members. I'd still be logging in at least thrice a week or so. Sorry for not answering your DYK query. Due to a change in policy, it has been made entirely optional to notify the creator of an article about it making to the main page. The relevant discussion can be found here and in a later section (which I discovered just now!). Regarding khel ratna, my source was indeed webindia.com. I felt that there may have been a discrepancy after submitting it to FLC. Please update and change the article as you see fit, thanks a lot in advance. --Gurubrahma 18:21, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Persian deities
ImpuMozhi, I wouldn't try to salvage that category. The "deities" in question existed long before there was anything like Persia, so the category is an oxymoron.
There are the various pre-Indo-European, Elamite and proto-Elamite groups. They had deities, of which we know little. Then there are the shared deities of the Indo-Iranian tribes (Indra, Varuna, names you would recognize) that were later rejected as "daevas" (gods, devis, reclassified as devils) by the Zoroastrians. I would imagine that the category referred to those shared deities. But there would be a better name for it, I'm sure.
I can't get into this right now. I'm trying to do too much, and falling to pieces. Zora 21:20, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
Thank for the award. I am going to put it on my main page. Chris 22:01, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
